Variable dimensions

A variable dimension is a size with a name, like width or wall. Every size that uses the name follows it: change the number once and they all change.

Making them

Make it a variable
Names a size where you typed it.
  1. Right-click a dimension in a sketch, or a number in a tool window.
  2. Choose Make it a variable… and type a name.
  3. Or type the name with the number straight into the box: width = 50.
A dimension that follows a variable reads width = 50.00 in the sketch.
Use one in a size
Any size box takes a name, or a formula of names, in place of a number.
  1. Open a tool, or double-click a dimension in a sketch.
  2. Type the name, for example width, or a formula, for example width - 2 * wall.
  3. Press OK. The size now follows the name.
Variable Dimensions
The list of every variable in the part, on its own button on the top bar (VAR. DIM.), on the Part, Sheet metal and sketch bars.
  1. Click Variable Dimensions.
  2. Change a number and the part rebuilds as you watch.
  3. Rename one: every size that uses it follows the new name.
  4. Each one lists what uses it. Deleting one says what it takes with it.

Sliders for other people

Others can change this
Turns a variable into a slider on the page you share.
  1. In Variable Dimensions, tick Others can change this beside the name.
  2. Type how it is shown (for example Width), the lowest and highest number, the step and the unit.
  3. For an option such as magnet holes, set the unit to switch: 1 is on, 0 is off. The shared page shows a tick box.
  4. Press Share on the top bar. It lists the sizes others can change.
  5. Copy private link, or Publish, to send the page. People who open it move the sliders and get their own part.
After you publish, a change you make reaches the public page when you press Update in Share.
